I received a panicked call from Mitch today. I could hear Izzy crying in the background as he tried to explain what happened.
Apparently, Kirby wanted to sit in the kitchen window and decided the best path was to climb up and over the high chair. Unfortunately, Izzy was sitting in the high chair at the time, peacefully eating her breakfast.
When Kirby jumped up, he some how landed on her ear and dangled there by one claw for a moment before falling to the ground. Mitch didn’t realize what happened at first, and then he saw the blood. Spurting everywhere as he described on the phone while we tried to figure out what our next step was.
I had Mitch hold her up in front of IzzyCam so I could get a look at what was going on:
I told him to get a cloth and wash the wound immediately while I call the pediatrician for advice. When I spoke to the nurse, she said to put pressure on the wound to get it to stop bleeding and put a dab of Neosporin to help prevent infection. If it didn’t stop bleeding, then take her to ER. Pretty sound advice, if you ask me.
When I got back on the phone with Mitch, he said that Izzy stopped crying and her ear stopped bleeding. He dabbed some Neosporin on the cut and she fussed a bit, but not much. She finished her breakfast and fell right to sleep for her morning nap. End of crisis.
I was pleasantly surprised at how well we both handled the situation. I hope we continue to remain level headed in these kinds of situations. I know with kids, they’re bound to get hurt. I want to keep my composure so I don’t make a bad situation worse.
I also hope that this little scar doesn’t ruin her chances at being a Ralph Lauren baby model.
If Lauren Hutton can have a gap in her teeth, and Cindy Crawford can have monster eyebrows, than Isadora can have a boo boo on her ear.
Ralph will still hire her, it adds character! I love how you checked it out on the Izzy cam.
How punk rock!
I hope the kids don’t call her “Quasimodo Ear” in grade school.
