I have been terrified of all the warnings I read about keeping stuffed animals and blankets out of the crib. She was having a hard time sleeping on Sunday so I let her have her favorite monkey blankey, intending to pull it out of the crib once she fell asleep.
Well, I fell asleep before I removed the blankey. I woke with a jolt, thinking, “ohmygod! Did my baby die of SIDS?” I ran to the crib, and there she was sleeping peacefully. She slept nearly six hours straight! She hasn’t done that since I went back to work.
I consulted other moms at work about monkey blankey, and they all agreed she should sleep with it if it gives her comfort.
Last night I tucked her in with monkey blankey around 8:30, and then she woke up briefly at 12:30. I put monkey blankey in her hand and she went right back to sleep. She slept through until 5:15. A miracle!
Keep your fingers crossed that monkey blankey continues to work his miracles.
Now, if only I could be disciplined enough to go to bed by 10:00. I might just possibly get caught up on sleep.
I’ve been a little obsessed with play kitchens lately. I’ve seen a lot of really great homemade kitchens out in the interwebs. I sent a few links to my mom, hoping that she and my dad would get inspired and design a play kitchen for Isadora. I thought they might be able to build one for less than I’ve seen store bought kitchens–some are really expensive!
Then I spotted this at Costco.
Oh, and I plan to make a bunch of food for Izzy out of my leftover felt from my Zucchini Pie days. Stuff like this:

UmeCraft’s Felt Food
Oh! And speaking of felt! I just remember that I wanted to make this holiday garland!
Oh no! It is 1:15 a.m. How in the world did it get so late? I’m off to bed. Izzy will be waking me up in about three hours. Good grief! I was supposed to go to bed when she did.
I dress Izzy is some pretty cute outfits, but she always looks a bit unfinished because we don’t have any shoes for her. I bought a great baby bootie pattern at Joann’s a couple of weeks back, and I finally made my first pair tonight. I was keeping the spirit of Camper’s Twin line in mind.
After all that work, I hope they fit. I’ll find out in the morning after Isadora wakes up.
My friend, Wick, is an amazing photographer. I am always impressed with his understanding of lighting, and his ability to capture people in candid moments. I love viewing his Flikr page when he posts new photos, especially around Halloween time. He and his wife fully embrace my favorite holiday and make it a very special event for their children, family, and friends.
He lives in Utah and recently came out for a visit–with his camera! We were so fortunate to have had an opportunity to have Wick shoot us. This is one of my favorites. (Mitch points out that my favorite photos of the baby are generally ones that I am in. I admit, I have become a bit of a narcisist since I was pregnant. Deal with it. 😉 )
I will post the rest soon!
In order of priority with status update:
- Clean/Organize Closet – Not Started (The reason I took a vacation day to begin with. Lame. Can someone come over and do this for me?)
- Sew Pantry Curtains – Complete (See below for before and after photos)
- Bake Banana Bread – Complete (and all of it nearly eaten)
- Go to Crafty Party at Mo’s House – Complete (I didn’t get any crafting done, but ate some really awesome homemade vegetarian chili that Elena made. Yum!)
- Sew Felt Baby Shoes – In Progress (See previous. I’ll probably finish them in time for Izzy to have already outgrown them.)
- Sew in ends of scarf for… – Not Started (Don’t want to say who it is for. It’s a gift)
- Attend Art opening at Studio – Not Started (We completely missed it. The art is still there, so we’ll swing by next weekend to check it out. I love the Tiny show–totally affordable tiny art. I bought stuff a couple years back, and I see quite a few things online that I like. Hope some of it is still available when I get there.)
- Put Away Clean Clothes – In Progress (We finished our clothes, but not Izzy’s)
- Put Away Clean Dishes – Completed (Many thanks to Blanca for washing the dishes last night while I slept.)
- Buy a Crib and Mattress – Completed (Yay! After weeks of agonizing over which set to get, we finally decided on Munire’s Urban Crib. When we saw it in person, neither of us liked it. It looked and felt cheap, so we decided on Bonavita’s Metro Crib and five drawer dresser. We also got the toddler bed and full size bed conversions so the furniture grows as she does.)
- Sell Co-Sleeper on Craigslist – Completed (I posted the ad around midnight, and had an inquiry by 9:30. It was sold before noon. I heart Craigslist.)
- Sell Maternity Clothes – Not Started (Dependent upon me cleaning/organizing my closet)
- Pay Bills – Not Started (I’ll probably do this after dinner…Update. Nope, I decided to eat ice cream instead. Maybe tomorrow.)
- Take a Shower – Not Started (There’s always tomorrow)
- Tidy Desk – Not Started (There’s always next weekend)
- Tidy Izzy’s Room – Not Started (If I leave it long enough, Mitch will take care of it.)
- Post extra stuff on Freecycle – Not Started (So close to dropping this crap off at Goodwill.)
- Grocery Shopping – Not Started (We have frozen and canned stuff. We’ll eat that for dinner this week. Oh and take out. We’ll have some of that too.)
Awesome, but cluttered looking pantry:
Pantry with fabulous curtains hiding the clutter (and a kitty):
I put Kirby in the swing and turned it on. I thought he might enjoy it. |
I was gently blowing in Isadora’s face, and she was so surprised. The first time I blew in her face, her reaction was hysterical. Mitch grabbed the camera the second time and you can see that the faces she’s making here are pretty funny. Now, she’s totally over it. She’ll kind of half smile, but is more annoyed. |
Isadora was cracking up at the faces I was making. I love the sound of her laughter. |
Izzy likes to hang out in her high chair while Mitch is getting a bottle ready for her or when I’m cooking dinner. We’ll be introducing her to solid foods in about two weeks. We’re going to start off with Happy Bellies Organic Brown Rice Cereal. When she’s ready for fruits and veggies, I’m expecting that we’ll make her food from scratch using the Beaba Babycook. High goals, yes I know, but now that we have the dishwasher, we should have plenty of time to steam and puree fresh food. Our refrigerator is pretty big too, so we can make big batches and freeze for future use. I’m even thinking about renewing our subscription with Planet Organics, so I can save even more time by having my groceries delivered.
This is one of my favorite photos of Isadora. I took it with the iPhone. I love the lighting and the angle she’s looking.
Wherever Izzy is, Kirby is not far behind. He loves her very much.
We went to my friend’s wedding reception in Atascadero–it was a costume party. Mitch was a pirate, I was a mermaid and Izzy was a lobster. It was pretty hot out so her lobster hat didn’t last long.
Another pretty baby shot.
Happy Halloween! We were going to try to make a brief appearance at Cafe Royale, but it was a very long week for me. I was too tired to go anywhere so we stayed in. I love these PJs. Our neighbor received three sets for her son, Dex, so she gave us a pair. They are size 9 mos! She’s only 5 1/2. She’s baby gigantico.
Shelley and I had a full day of Colma/Daly City shopping yesterday: Party City, Pet Store, Target, JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts, Babies R Us. We stopped along the way for lunch at Fresh Choice. It was a busy day for the little baby, and she konked out while we were in the check out lane at Target.
The kitties haven’t made an appearance in a while…
Murky looking slightly ashamed for wanting to enjoy the baby’s play mat. She knows what a fool Kirby makes of himself when he’s playing on it. She does not want anyone to think she is a fool.
Kirby is trying to master high places. I fear for him because I think he has kitty vertigo–he is always falling over. I’m glad it is only six feet and not six stories tall. He should be able to survive that fall.
We will never have dirty dish clutter again!
